Co-op Program

St Luke’s offers a strong co-op program.  Beginning in grade 9, students co-op once a month in a work placement of their choosing and by May and June students co-op every Friday.

In grade 10, 11 and 12 students co-op every other day all year long and earn 4 credits a year from their co-op placements.  By grade 11, students are encouraged to co-op in their own communities with the hope their placement will turn into employment or into an apprenticeship.

To begin a co-op placement, students must complete the WHMIS course (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System). It is a comprehensive plan for providing information on the safe use of hazardous materials used in Canadian workplaces. Information is provided by means of product labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS) and worker education programs.  All students must pass this course to begin their co-op placement.
