At St Luke we believe that students learn math best when they are actively engaged. Students are often encouraged to work and talk together to solve problems using vertical and horizontal spaces. Math is related to real life applications that will be important in future careers and post secondary programs.
There are two diploma pathways offered at St Luke CHS in grades 9 to 12. The Locally Developed and Workplace Math Pathway focuses on real life math skills – Money Sense, Measurement and Proportional Reasoning. This pathway can lead to getting a job in the workplace, apprenticeship programs and some college programs. The Applied and College Math Pathway focuses on concrete math skills and math concepts related to functions. This pathway can lead to getting a job in the workplace, apprenticeship programs and many college programs.
St Luke’s is also ensuring that students have strong fundamental math skills. Students use the Minds On portion of math class to review and gain mastery of fundamental math skills. See the following link for more information.
